Why Your Filter Is So Important

Your pool filter removes debris, bacteria, oils, and microscopic particles that make water cloudy and unsafe. Even with perfect chemistry, a poorly functioning filter means your pool water won't be truly clean. A filter running at too high a pressure or with worn-out media can't do its job — and you'll feel it in the water.

Filter Types We Service

Sand Filters

The most common residential filter type. We backwash, inspect laterals, and replace sand media that has become caked, channeled, or past its effective lifespan (typically every 5–7 years).

Cartridge Filters

Highly efficient and low-maintenance. We deep-clean cartridge elements, inspect for tears or collapse, and replace when cleaning no longer restores performance.

DE (Diatomaceous Earth) Filters

The highest-performing residential filter type. We inspect and clean grids, replace torn or damaged grid assemblies, and refresh DE powder for maximum filtration efficiency.

Signs Your Filter Needs Service

  • Pool water is cloudy despite balanced chemistry
  • Filter requires more frequent backwashing than usual
  • DE powder or sand appearing in the pool
  • Water flow from returns feels weak
  • Filter making unusual noises
When was your filter last serviced?

Sand should be replaced every 5–7 years. Cartridges should be replaced annually or when cleaning no longer restores performance. DE grids last 5–10 years with proper care. If you're not sure when yours was last serviced, it's worth checking.

Frequently Asked Questions

If backwashing temporarily drops the pressure and then it climbs back to normal within a few days, the sand is likely exhausted and needs replacement. If backwashing has no effect on pressure, the issue may be in the valve or laterals.

Sand in the pool usually means a broken lateral inside the filter tank. The laterals are the small plastic arms at the bottom of the sand bed that hold the sand in. One or more may have cracked, allowing sand to pass through.

Yes, and it's a common upgrade. Cartridge and DE filters provide superior water clarity compared to sand. We can assess your existing plumbing and recommend the best option for your setup.

Most filter service calls take 1–2 hours. A full sand replacement or DE grid replacement typically takes 2–3 hours. We'll give you an accurate timeframe when we diagnose the issue.
